THE LEGACY OF THE LEGENDARY FRANK ODOI
I have just been reading a tribute to the legendary cartoonist,Frank Odoi,and it finally sank in that his masterpiece,"Akhokan",has left an indelible mark amongst local sequential artists,since the work has carved a niche for authentic african sequential stories,away from the universal superhero comics from the West that have also been very influential in building the basics for the local comics industry.
A challenge remains with local sequential artists in preserving the rich legacy of the late Frank Odoi,by making sure that his exceptional style and idea of local comics content do not fade away.It's upon us to further it by working on contributing to the industry, mentoring other upcoming artists and putting in place structures that will favour a comics-rich climate in Kenya and across the board.
It's our effort and substance that will not only honour this invaluable legacy,but also secure a future for the industry.
